THE LAST DAY OF THE ASSYRIAN LEVIES

*May 2nd 1941 (6691): 15,000 soldiers of Iraqi cowered army with Arab tribesmen from Tikrit Samara,Shemer and Delaim had besieged the city of Habbanyia (61 Km northwest of Baghdad).

They had dug  trenches and were determined on destroying the Assyrians and taking their properties and possessions. Assyrians painfully remembered the massacre of 1933 in Simele and the surrounding villages and pledged "Never Again!". They remembered the raping and pillaging upon defenseless Assyrian villagers.

With fresh memories of the Simele massacre, the heroic Assyrian fighters not only defended Habbanyia from demise but forced the Iraqi army to retreat all the way to Faluja, some 18 Km to the south.
