*May 2nd 1941 (6691): 15,000 soldiers of Iraqi cowered army with Arab tribesmen from Tikrit Samara,Shemer and Delaim had besieged the city of Habbanyia (61 Km northwest of Baghdad).

They had dug  trenches and were determined on destroying the Assyrians and taking their properties and possessions. Assyrians painfully remembered the massacre of 1933 in Simele and the surrounding villages and pledged "Never Again!". They remembered the raping and pillaging upon defenseless Assyrian villagers.

flag.jpg (34749 bytes) The Assyrians were quite fearful that the Iraqi army had, yet again, plotted to carry out another evil massacre of Assyrian men, women, and children. 500 Assyrian soldiers fighting as a battalion of the Levies vigorously repulsed the Iraqi attack. With fresh memories of the Simele massacre, the heroic Assyrian fighters not only defended Habbanyia from demise but forced the Iraqi army to retreat all the way to Faluja, some 18 Km to the south.

army2.jpg (18461 bytes)    At that time Rashid 'ali Al-Gilany the prime Minster flew out the country, all the cabinet member sent their families out of the country (to Turkey) at the first day of the fight then they flew.

army1.jpg (15011 bytes) The British not knowing which way the fight end, they put the monarch family in a boat and pushed them in the sea south of Basrah waiting for the developments. later they were brought back and reinstituted (awarded for their bravery!!!).
